Ballad of the Brave Trailblazer | Chapter 4

Chapter 3 << | index | >> Chapter 5

Bradley: Who does this Brook guy think we are? He’s being way too buddy-buddy.

Figaro: People appreciate wizards in Southern Country, you see. Southern wizards are all about helping each other out through life, after all.
That’s why he sees wizards as brothers in arms who will work with him.

Bradley: You’ve gotta be kidding me. Don’t treat me like some laid-back Southern wizard.

Akira: (Bradley and the others are definitely irritated....)

Lennox: Sir Sage, shouldn’t we be heading off?

Akira: You’re right, let’s go. Mister Brook, is the underground palace a far way off from here?

Brook: It’s a long way off. But we have to deal with the rocky, mountainous terrain. We’re used to making our way round the mountains, but.....

Rutile: No worries. We’ll fly there!

Mister Brook’s face breaks out into a grin as if he’s just witnessed an amazing discovery.

Brook: Brooms, huh! You know, I’ve never been on one before. Guess I’ll hop onto that guy’s broom.

Bradley: Like hell I’d let you! Don’t you have a witch by your side anyway?

Bradley nods towards Stacy, who shakes her head, her brows turned downwards.

Stacy: I couldn’t possibly let anyone onto my broom.... It’s unstable, and I start going slow out of nowhere. I can’t fly straight.

Bradley: Well, there’s still no reason for me to let him ride with me. Ask someone else.

Brook: Oh, come on.

Bradley: You’re so annoying....!

Akira: (He’s acting like he’s his uncle or something.....)

Rutile: Mister Brook, would you like to ride on my broom instead? I’m very good at flying, you see.

Brook: You sure about that? Thanks. I guess I’ll take you up on that offer.

Figaro: Sir Sage, you can ride with me.

Akira: Thank you. I wonder if Mister Brook will be okay......

Rutile might not look it, but he’s the speed demon of the magic headquarters.

Figaro: He’ll be fine. Rutile will probably take it easy, since he’s carrying someone he only just met.

Rutile: Mister Brook, would you like to take a slow journey through the skies? Or should I speed away?

Brook: Hmm. Enjoying the scenery sounds nice, but I think it’d feel great to speed with the wind.

Rutile: It feels wonderful! I’ll fly through the sky like we’re birds, then!

And in that moment, it was decided that Mister Brook would experience quite the thrilling broom debut.

Lennox: Stacy.

Lennox approaches Stacy, who seems to be daunted by the sheer number of wizards surrounding her.

Lennox: If you’re not used to flying, would you like to try flying with us?

Stacy: ....Can I?

Lennox: Of course. It’ll be good practice for you to get a hang of things. Plus, if there are other wizards around, we can support you. And if you get tired, you can join me on my broom.

Mitile: It took me a lot of time to get used to riding my broom too. And I’m still practicing so I can fly long distances.

Stacy: Really? Does that mean I can improve with practice too?

Lennox: Of course.

Mitile: Let’s work hard together!

Stacy breaks out into a smile like a flower blossoming.
And thus, the little witch and the Sage’s wizards hop on their brooms and head towards the underground palace.
It isn’t long before Mister Brook’s robust screams echo across the blue skies.

✦✧☾✧✦

(Woosh)

Brook: (It took a while for us to ask the Sage’s wizards for help, but it was the right move. I didn’t expect this many wizards to show up.)

Brook's monologue: Stacy was the only witch I knew, so I was honestly unsure of how much I could rely on them.
But if I tell my comrades that the Sage’s wizards investigated the palace, I’m sure they’ll feel at ease settling down there. I hope it’ll serve as some reassurance.

Rutile: Mister Brook, I’m really sorry about that. I got a little ahead of myself.

Brook: Haha, it’s fine. I’ve calmed down now.

Figaro: Flying at that speed when you’ve never been on a broom before must have been quite an experience.

Mithra: I thought you were going to kill him.

Owen: His dying cries were pleasant to listen to.

Brook's monologue: My first flight on a broom was definitely exhilarating. Despite his gentle looks, he sped through the sky like a bullet.

Brook: (Well, I was the one who asked him to fly fast. But wow, Rutile — what a man. He flies at such incredible speed...)
(...And is Stacy going to keep trying like that?)

Brook's monologue: I steal a glance behind me. Stacy looks like she’s gripping her broom for her dear life as the wizards by her side cheer her on.

Lennox: Stacy, are you okay?

Stacy: I-I’m still a little shaky, but I’m fine.

Mitile: You can take it easy as you fly. We’re by your side.

Lennox: You’re flying faster than before. Relax.

Stacy: Yes!

Rutile: Stacy’s trying really hard.

Brook: Looks like it. But she shouldn’t be so stubborn; she should just ask to ride on someone else’s broom.

Bradley: Then she’ll never improve.

Brook's monologue: The rough-looking man says this as he glares at me.

Bradley: If a beginner allows themself to remain inexperienced, then he’s got no future ahead of him.

Brook: But she’s a timid and clumsy girl, you see. I think it’d be difficult for her to become like you all.

Snow: But of course. Look at her: as a witch, she is simply a newborn baby.

White: Only a few chosen geniuses can use magic as they please when they are so young.

Brook: Wh... What’s with those mannerisms? You two sound like old men.

Bradley: Hey, don’t be fooled. Those twins are over two thousand years old.

Brook: What!? Two thousand!?

Bradley: They might pretend to be good people, but they’re Northern wizards through and through.

Snow: Ohoho. The same goes for Bradley here, and Mithra and Owen over there. We are the terrifying Northern wizards who frighten children out of their wits.

Mithra: You’re missing one. Figaro is also a pure Norther—....

Figaro: Oh Mithra, don’t bully me with your silly lies. You know very well that I’m a feeble Southern wizard who wouldn’t even stand a chance against you.

Brook's monologue: Their conversation is simply so distant from human sensibilities that I gaze at the wizards in shock and surprise.
