Autumn Festival ✽ Hopping Lunar Rabbits of the Moonlight | Prologue

| index | >> Rabbits and Horns - 1

Location: Hallway

Leo: Hmmh~m... ♪

Keito: Hey, how many times do I have to warn you? Don’t doodle on the walls of the hallway, Tsukinaga.

Leo: Ah, it’s Keito! Uchu~ ☆

I want this greeting to become popular, so you should use lots too, Keito! I’m planning on filing a patent and building a fortune, wahaha ♪

Keito: What’s so funny? Don’t laugh, I’m lecturing you.

Leo: Aouch!? You don’t have to hit me! Violence is bad!

Keito, you idiot! You bully! You lectureist! Your mom has an o~u~tie~!

Keito: Don’t insult my parents. ...Let me amend that. Don’t say to others what you don’t want them to say to you.

Goodness. You made me worry so much, but you came back just like that, only to stir up trouble and chaos left and right....

Good to know you’re doing well, Tsukinaga.

Leo: Ah, that must be sarcasm! You used to only throw straight pitches right down the middle, but you learned how to throw curveballs, too! Good, good, humans are fascinating because they change... ☆

Keito: What are you talking about? Anyhow, hurry and clean up these doodles.

I brought a bucket and detergent and all the tools you need. That’s the end of my kindness; clean up your own crimes with your own hands.

Leo: Okay. But give me a second; I wanna save my new song somewhere before I do.

Keito: Don’t write it on the wall. How many times have I told you to at least carry writing tools around?

Leo: No, I do, but I lose them all the time; before I know it, they’re gone.

Also, lately I’ve been overflowing with inspiration, so I use up notepads in a flash.

Keito: Use a digital device. No matter how much music you come up with, it shouldn’t use that much data.

Leo: N~. But it’s a pain when you lose your smartphone. I’d rather compose my music with a pen and paper.

Keito: I can understand that. I prefer traditional mediums, too... But we don’t live in that kind of era anymore.

Leo: ♪~♪~♪

Keito: Hey, don’t keep doodling while I’m talking. Looks like talking to you is useless; this is what they mean when they say reading the nembutsu to a horse's ear.

Leo: Wahaha! In Mama-style, in one ear and out the other1~ ☆

Oh, you must’ve chosen that expression because the Knights in chess are shaped like horses! Am I right?

Keito: You catch on quick; now apply that to your common sense.

...What do you plan on doing with “Knights”? There’s no need to rush things, but you need to settle the matter somehow.

You’re free to coop up and grow stagnant all you want, but don’t drag others into it.

Leo: N~, I’m still thinking about it.... I need to check in and confirm things first. But I don’t really have my thoughts together yet.

What? You didn’t just come to lecture me? You want to talk about serious stuff too? Then I’m gonna run; what a pain!

Keito: Don’t run. Face your problems. ...like I am, too.

In any case, there are all sorts of things I need to tell you. It might be a pain, but just shut up and listen for now.

Leo: Eh~, Keito, you’re always so roundabout, you take forever! At least make it simple! Tell me in three lines!

Keito: Don’t ask for the impossible. I’ll try my best, but short and simple isn’t always the answer.

Leo: See! That opening alone is already so long and annoying! I’m sick of it!

Keito: Just listen. You composed an incredible amount of music before you stopped coming to school, right?

Leo: Yeah? Yeah, making music is how I breathe!

Keito: Is that so. Well, it might be just a breath to you, but your music is worth gold.

Leo: Wahaha! I’m a genius, after all ☆

Keito: Infuriatingly, yes. Anyway, you provided your music to the school without much thought, right?

All that music was rented out—quite frequently—as practice music and the like.

With a fee. So the usage costs piled up, amounting to a good sum of money.

I want to direct deposit that to your bank, so let me know your account information.

We came up with the music rental system, so the student council is currently in charge of the money, but—.

It would be ridiculous for us to silently embezzle it, so I want you to accept it.

You deserve the compensation. It’s not right for us to be in charge of that money; it’s also a bit eerie.

Leo: Eh~, what a pain. I don’t like these sorts of procedures....

It’s fine, I’ll give it to you, Keito. Didn’t you say you wanted to renovate the archery grounds because they were getting pretty old? Use it for that.

Keito: We got the renovation over and done with while you were cooped up. There’s no reason for me to take your money; accept it.

Let me know your account information as soon as possible, all right?

...Oh, I have student council work to be doing, so I’ll be going now. Make sure to get rid of your hallway doodles, Tsukinaga.

Leo: Yeah, yeah... Keito, don’t get stuck doing just student council work, okay? Make sure you get around to your idol activities, too.

You aside, the other members of “Akatsuki” might be dissatisfied because they don’t get to perform that often, you know?

Keito: That... is probably true. But you’re in no place to tell me that, after having left “Knights” alone for so long.

Well, whatever. See you, Tsukinaga. Don’t push yourself too hard; see you tomorrow at school.

Leo: Yup, bye-by~e. See you tomorrow.

(Hm~. What to do. I didn’t know the songs I provided were being used that way....)

(I’m not in need of money; I don’t want this. Just thinking about procedures is a pain; I feel like I’ve suffered a loss, actually.)

(Well, I guess I’ll figure out some good way to use this money.)

(It’s a “waste” to let money rot away, after all~, I need to return it to society and let it circulate.)

(Money comes and goes. I need to release it so it reaches somebody who needs it.)

(What to do? I wanna use this chance to do something fun! With a bang!)

(Wahaha, oh, the up-to-no-good thoughts are bubbling up... ☆)

1. "In one ear and out the other" — he actually says "馬耳東風," which means "someone who doesn't care about what others are saying," because a horse ("馬") expresses no interest in the spring winds from the east ("東風") that whisk past its ears ("耳") (meanwhile, everyone else is happy that spring has come)
