Recollection: Various Crossroads | Crowd - 7

Keito: Kiryu. Please come to the stage.

Kuro: Yeah. Geez, I’ve gotten dragged into some weird spin of fate.

Rei: Huh. Kiryu-kun is wearing a matching outfit, huh. You gonna sing with us?

Kuro: Unless I’m in the way, yeah. Looks like making an extra outfit just in case ended up backfiring on me.

It’s a waste to let an outfit go unworn after going through the effort of making it, but.

Hasumi asked me in advance. As a side request to making these costumes.

He said to stand on stage with you guys—even if it was just temporary, just this one time.

In exchange, he said he’d officially recognize my part-time allowance-gathering jobs of making and sewing costumes within the school.

Said he’d write it into the rules, as a “part-time school job.”

Dunno if it was because I was all disruptive as a kid, but I’m in a pretty tough spot with teachers—if they catch sight of me, I’m out.

So if they take issue with part-time jobs that are against school rules, that's a problem for me.

But. From now on, Hasumi.... Or rather, the Student Council will ensure my status.

They’ll treat me as a clean and proper student who isn’t breaking any rules.

That’s why I’ll help you out. It’s because our goals have aligned.

If Hasumi—if the Student Council—gains power, then I’ll benefit too. And if he falls, then I lose my backup as well.

Someone might point out my rule-breaking and report it to the teachers—and then I might get kicked outta school.

I want to avoid that, because I decided I’d become an idol.

This time. I want to be someone who can heal others and give them hope—instead of hurting them.

Because idols were the ones who once revived my depressed sister.

I’m fully aware that it doesn’t suit riff-raff like me, but.

I seriously want to be an idol. I can’t half-ass it and drop out.

Rei: Hu~h.... You sure are awful, bozu. So that’s how you intimidated the scary demon into submission when nobody else could control him.

Kuro: I phrased that poorly. He came right up to my face—gave me an impassioned speech and preached me down.

Hasumi’s ideas are pretty naive, but I don’t dislike them.

At the very least, it’s thanks to him that I can stand on stage right now. I can sing with all my might in front of a huge audience.

It makes me happy. I was waiting for this kinda chance.

“♪~♪~♪”

Keito: ...Fufu. I chose the right song; Kiryu’s powerful voice is a perfect match for rock. What a spirit—it feels like you’ll get killed if you look away.

Kuro: I'm not killing anything. What do you think I am?

Well, anyway. That’s what’s going on, so... If Sakuma tries to mess around, I’ll stop him.

I’m here to act like I’m on Hasumi’s side in every sense of the word this time.

Keito: Indeed. I won’t let you down—I intend to ask you to do the same sort of work again, anyway.

Kuro: Haha. Next time, don’t make it so sudden.

To be honest, I didn’t get enough lessons in because I was making these outfits, so.... I’m pretty mad at myself for how much trouble I’m having singing.

Well, I’ll make up for it with sheer force! Outta the way, Rock ‘n’ roll....!

Rei: Hahaa. I see, you thought this out. Kiryu-kun is a real fighter; he could hold me down with brute force.

No matter what I’m plotting—even in the worst case scenario, if you tie me up, you can stop me.

At the very least, just showing that you can do that would keep me in check.

But you know what, bozu? No matter how strong Kiryu-kun is.... This isn’t a manga. He can’t handle dozens of people at once.

You might’ve thought you’d be fine so long as you stopped me, but. There are lots of other humans in this world besides me, you know?

And history is always made by those nameless masses.

Keito: ...? What do you mean?

Rei: Seeing is better than hearing. I’ll show you how terrifying reality can be.

“Hey now! Listen up! I’ve got a big announcement to make~!”

Keito: (? What is he planning? Should I ask Kiryu to stop Sakuma-san?)

(No, our performance hasn’t ended yet.... I want to avoid making a scene before the vote happens.)

Rei: “Uhh so, sorry. Looks like I messed up my turn. I was singing along all friendly with these three, but....”

“I’m not on their team, you see ♪”

Keito: Hey, what are you saying? That’s not what you promised, you said you’d join us temporarily!

Rei: “Yeah, you’re right. Then lemme rephrase that. I was on their team, but....”

“I won’t be anymore, from this very moment on, before the vote happens. I can’t put up with them any longer, so I’m leaving.”

...I did promise I’d join you, but I never said I’d be your comrade forever, after all. I have the right to leave whenever I want. You got a problem with that?

Keito: Wh...? You can’t just do that; I refuse to recognize it!

Rei: Even if you don’t recognize it, it doesn’t go against the rules.

The groups are made up of volunteers. There’s no rule saying you need to write down the members’ names on a piece of paper, finished off with a seal and all, or else they won’t count.

Kiryu-kun could jump in just like that, so it’s fine if I do the opposite and leave mid-way, right?

That ambiguity right there was your fatal error.

Keito: (Guh... But I only just met Kiryu; I didn’t know if he’d join us until today.)

(No—I couldn’t go that far to believe that he would.)

(I set things up so that Kiryu could join us at any point as a deterrent, in the event something came up, but....)

(Sakuma-san took advantage of that very same rule and left the group.)

Rei: “And thus the schemer drowns in his own scheme. Anyway, I’ll be leaving.”

“And after this, I’m gonna form a brand new group right here.”

“Everyone’s welcome to join if they wanna—join me on stage. I’ll count you in as a comrade; let’s have fun singing together.”
