Prelude to the Festival and Miracles | Chapter 6
Chapter 5 << | index | >> Chapter 7
(Woosh)
Snow in the Portrait: We finally got everyone! Goodness, you're all such a handful....! It's nighttime already!
White in the Portrait: I'm worried about the Eastern wizards! Mithra, cut open the door of space! We need to hurry!
Mithra: Sigh....
Snow and White in the Portrait: Mithra, dear!
Mithra: You're stuck in the frame, so commanding me around means nothing.... Do they even need our help? They didn't sound like they wanted it.
Owen: If they needed us, I wouldn't be going. I'm going because they don't need me — that's what makes it fun.
Bradley: Owen, you're as contrary as ever... I get what Mithra's trying to say, though.
The Eastern guys don't hang out with others. They hate and fear when people butt in. Even if you help them out, they look all sour.
I'm not telling them to lick the soles of my shoes or anything. But I want to lend my strength to guys who welcome me, you know?
Snow in the Portrait: The Eastern wizards do understand gratitude. They like being alone, and they dislike interacting with others, but at their core they are polite and respectful souls.
White in the Portrait: They're careful and cautious. You could learn a thing or two from their carefully calculated battle methods too.
Mithra: Why do they like being alone? I like the freedom that being on my own gives me, but I feel like they are different.
They like being alone, but they hate how they are lonely. They hate being with others, but they express great care towards them. It seems complicated.
Snow in the Portrait: They've been hurt by others and don't want to get hurt any further. Because they know pain, they're cautious and deeply loving.
Owen: Are they really deeply loving?
Bradley: Don’t you mean they hold deep grudges?
White in the Portrait: You'll soon understand. You just need to spend time with them. Mithra, please.
Mithra: ....Fine.

(Boom)
Zasha: .......
Village Head: What are you doing, Zasha....
Zasha: Have you witnessed the golden-haired wizard up close, sir...?
Village Head: Yes.
Zasha: I thought he looked identical to Him, in the church....
Village Head: Don't be silly... He does not move around. He simply watches over us in silence to see if we are his loyal servants.
They are merely wizards.... We must provide them as an offering to Him. That is the duty the world had bestowed upon this village.
Zasha: ....But....
Village Head: ....Are you still unsure.... Perhaps the wizards have cast a spell on you. You might be under their control, just as your parents were....
Zasha: N-no, that's not true, sir... I'm not....
Village Head: Don't worry.... A wizard’s spell can be broken through pain. Let me bring you back to your senses.
(Beating sounds)
Zasha: ....! Please stop, sir....!
✦✧ ☾✧✦
Heathcliff: ....Mr. Faust and Nero are late....
Shino: You're right... ....Ah...
Akira: What's wrong?
Shino: It's Zasha... He's injured.... He's staggering towards the church.
Heathcliff: You're right... I wonder what happened...?
It’s so dark that I can’t really tell what’s going on. I can vaguely see a dark shadow move and collapse.
Heathcliff: ...He fell. He's not moving... Maybe he can't move....
Heath and Shino squint worriedly into the darkness. Then, they turn around to ask me, at the same time.
Shino: We're only going to help him.
Heathcliff: We'll be back soon if it's not a terrible injury. ...May we go?
Faust’s order — “Don’t move” — crosses my mind.
But I couldn’t just leave the injured boy alone.
Akira: ...Got it. Let's be very careful.
Heathcliff: Yes.
Shino: Yeah.
(Woosh)
We fly up the pitch-black mountain slope on their brooms.
As we approach, I can see the huddled-up boy more clearly.
Zasha: ....Uu......
Shino: Zasha!
Zasha: .....! ...hh, ...wizards....
(Footsteps)
Zasha exclaims in fear and begins to run. He’s wobbling towards the church.
Shino: Wait, Zasha! Why are you running away...!?
Zasha: ....I shouldn't listen to their voices.... the wizards are going to put me under their control....
Heathcliff: Zasha, don't run! You're hurt, right!?
Zasha: .......
Zasha breathes heavily as he rushes through the dark night, but at the same time, he sounds like he’s about to cry.
He flies into the church and tries to close the heavy, old door.
(Heavy door closing)
But just before the door shuts us out, we manage to slide into the church.
