Prelude to the Festival and Justice | Chapter 13

Chapter 12 << | index |

A lonely temple, adorned only by the light of the moon and stars. Yet I hear music unlike anything I’ve listened to before.
The music of the holy festival.
As the Central wizards chant their spells, their bodies begin to glow dimly.

Arthur: << Pernoctant Nixzo >> !

Cain: << Gladius Procella >> !

Riquet: << Sunrotea Edif >> !

Oz: << Vox Nox >>

Before I know it, the Southern wizards have arrived as well. They cast their spells, supporting the Central wizards.

Rutile: << Ortonik Setomaouge >>

Lennox: << Forsettao Meiuvat >>

Mitile: << Ortonik Sealsispilce >>

Figaro: << Possideo >>

The ancient temple begins to shine more brightly than the stars.
A giant pillar of light emerges from the center of the temple.
The dim light surrounding the wizards begins to shine, and is sucked into the pillar like shooting stars.
My vision grows white from the shimmering brightness....

✦✧☾✧✦

When I come to my senses, I am back on the rooftop of the ruins......
The sand which had been heaving and coiling like living creatures now scatters in the wind with a rustle.
Like fireflies, small pinpricks of light float off into the skies above, finally at rest.
As faint sounds of a zither play on......

Akira: (The wandering bard that we met before coming to Mesa..... He might have been the soul of the bard who abandoned Mesa.....)
(Perhaps the stories of Mesa only continue to be handed down through his songs—an almost-forgotten but once illustrious city that was destroyed by a natural catastrophe....)
(Someday, will Oz talk to Arthur about the real reason this city was destroyed......?)

Oz says nothing at all, simply lending his hand to a staggering Arthur.
Arthur looks up at Oz, his smile brimming with trust.

Arthur: Thank you for saving me, Sir Oz.

Cain: Arthur, you were reckless......ch, Ouch......!

Rutile: The same goes for you, Mister Cain. I was so worried about you......

Mitile: Me too..... The Central wizards really don’t hold back at all....

Riquet: But Mitile, you came to our aid too. We’ve made another memory together!

Mitile: I, I’m happy, but next time let’s make safer memories.

Akira: That took years off my life...... Central wizards are reckless and rush in without a care for their own lives......
But because of that, they can accomplish things that would normally be impossible.

Arthur: Sir Sage......

Akira: It is because of you all that the Ancient Central Temple was revived. Thank you, everyone.

Arthur: It is my honour to be of use to Sir Sage. I’ll continue to put my life on the line for.....

Akira: E-Enough of risking your life. Please rest up and stay still for a while.

Figaro: All right, let’s get back to the magical headquarters with Oz’s magic before the sun sets. Those with injuries should come to Dr. Figaro’s medical office straightaway.

Lennox: I’ll lend you a hand.

Cain: Sorry, thanks.

At that moment, we hear a voice from far away.

???: He~y, please wait......!

Across the desert wastelands, a figure waves at us. It turns out to be someone who looks like a wandering bard carrying a zither; a well-bronzed, sunburnt youth with brown hair.
He runs up to us, and smiles with relief.

Wandering bard: Thank goodness I managed to meet someone. I’m a wandering bard. But it seems like I lost my way. This is the first time I’ve seen ruins like these.

Akira: (Well, of course..... These ruins weren’t here until just now, so......)

Wandering bard: I’m trying to find my way to the Central capital, so do you mind taking me along with you until midway? There’s strange rumours about these parts, you see.
Rumours about travelers going inexplicably missing......

Arthur: If you’re worried about that, it’s all right now. We’ve gotten rid of the monsters that were attacking travelers.

Wandering bard: Monsters.....? Who are you......?

Arthur: We are the Sage’s wizards. This here is the Sage. I am Arthur, the prince of Central Country.

Wandering bard: Eh......!?

The wandering bard makes an astonished face, and takes a long, hard look at all of us. Then, still in some awe, he gives us a friendly smile.

Wandering bard: To think that I get to meet the Sage, and the prince of Central Country. Well if that’s the case, I bagged myself a good souvenir thanks to getting lost. I have to write a new song right away.

Mitile: Um, could we listen to your songs as we make our way back?

Wandering bard: Of course, it would be my pleasure. Please, tell me the stories of how you got rid of the monsters too. I’ll write it into songs that will be handed down for a thousand years to come.
Sir Sage, wizards. Thank you for protecting us travelers.

At his words of thanks, Oz and I share a look and smile.
I’m delighted to have helped out this wandering bard, dreaming of new worlds and adventures as he travels through these lands.

Akira: Not at all. We’re sorry for messing up the landscape of these parts so badly that you lost your way. You see, Oz dug up these ruins.......

Wandering bard: Oz!? Is the Oz you speak of that Oz!? What kind of wizard is he?

Oz: He’s right in front of your eyes. We’re returning to the magical headquarters first before we head for the capital. We have people with injuries.

Wandering bard: Eh!? G-Got it.

Oz: << Vox Nox >>

And thus the Ancient Central Temple was revived, and the holy festival of Central Country was performed.
There are three more ancient temples we need to revive....
