Ballad of the Brave Trailblazer | Chapter 9

Chapter 8 << | index | >> Chapter 10

Lennox: << Forsettao Meiuvat >>

(Clash)

Brook's monologue: The man slides in front of us just in the nick of time. His tall body seems more reliable than ever; his back is like a mountain.

Lennox: You did great, Stacy. Leave the rest to us.

Brook's monologue: He reassures Stacy with a powerful yet gentle voice. His words are not those of an adult praising a child: they are words dedicated to a brave comrade in arms.
Stacy’s eyes well up with tears, but those tears do not spill from her eyes as she deeply nods.

Brook: (...Stacy. You’ve become a fine witch.)

(Woosh)

Rutile: This is.....

Bradley: We’ve gone pretty deep into the palace. This is a huge room, but it looks like the only entrance is through where we entered.
We’ll put an end to the skull bastard right here.

Rutile: Yes!

Bradley: Listen up. I’ll stand here by the entrance to make sure it doesn’t get away.
You see that giant pillar in the middle? Your job is to steer the skull so it ends up right there.
The moment the skull reaches the pillar, I’ll finish it off with my gun. Don’t worry. I’ll hold back so I don't destroy anything.

Rutile: Got it. But how should I steer the skull....?

Bradley: You attack it in the direction you don’t want it to go, and you predict where it’s headed so you can block its path in advance.
It’s a magic tool, but it was originally a wizard. No matter how speedy it is now, it’ll get tired and its movements will slow down. That’s when I’ll shoot — and the hunt will be our win.

Rutile: All right!

Bradley: Then let’s get this started! Here we go.

(Woosh)

Rutile: (...First, get the skull’s attention.)
<< Ortonik Setomaouge >>!
...Oh no, it went in the opposite direction I wanted it to go. One more shot....!

(Clash)

Rutile: Ugh, it went in the opposite way again....

Bradley: Pull yourself together! Don’t let the skull toy with you — you’re the one who has to control it.

Rutile: Yes! ...It’s been using the pillars to run away. I need to stop it from doing that.
(And that skull refuses to go towards the entrance of the room — is it because Mister Bradley is standing there?)
I see. I just have to chase it from the opposite direction of the entrance....!

(Woosh)

Rutile: ....Got it!

Bradley: That’s right! Now steer the skull to the central pillar!

Rutile: (I managed to get it pretty close to the big pillar. And I can see its movements more clearly now....!)

Bradley: ....You’re good. You’re quick on your broom and quick to learn.
Hey! Let’s put an end to this game of tag!

Rutile: All right!
<< Ortonik Setoma.... >>
!?
(Oh no, I messed up....! From this angle, the pillar will get in the way of Mister Bradley’s attack.)
(It’s going to get away again....!)

Bradley: Keep chasing after the skull!

(Woosh)

Rutile: !
(Mister Bradley’s headed to the front of the skull!)

Bradley: I’ll close off its escape routes from both sides. << Adnopotensum >>!

(Boom) (Boom)

Rutile: (The skull has nowhere to run now. It’s coming back this way!)

Bradley: It spun around in a hurry. Now’s your chance. Get it!

Rutile: Yes! << Ortonik Setomaouge >>!

(Clash)

Figaro: Attacking it from all sides isn’t working. We just keep wasting time.

Snow: Maybe that is what it’s after: it’s buying time until its true strength returns.
We ought to finish it off in one go, when its form clusters together, but it keeps splitting apart as if it’s mocking us.

Lennox: If only we could steer it to gather in one spot.

Akira: (Thinking back, the shadows all attacked Stacy at once.....)

We were able to treat Stacy with the potion that Mitile left behind, but Stacy’s arm was bleeding heavily back there.

Akira: Maybe it was drawn to the blood.....

Mithra: Blood?

Akira: It looked like the ancient creature was drawn to Stacy’s blood when it attacked her.

Owen: Huh. Then maybe we can lure it out using blood.
....Hey, Sir Sage. Can you help us out here?

Owen laughs tauntingly as he traces my chin with his nails.

Akira: Ugh.... Well, if it’s just a little bit of blood.....

I can offer up some of my blood in order to seal away the ancient creature. I try to roll up my sleeves like I’m ready to donate blood — but that’s when he stops me with an outstretched arm.

Figaro: You need to be a bit more pompous during times like these. We can’t sacrifice our dear Sage for the sake of that monster.

Mithra: Then will you do it?

Figaro: Sure thing.

Akira: Figaro....!

Figaro slices the tip of his finger as if he’s opening a bottle of wine and lets his blood dribble across the crumbled altar. The red droplets blossom with life across the dull stone.

Figaro: It should be a fine meal for this starving relic of the past.

The scattered shadows must have caught the scent of blood; they rush towards the altar as if in a race.
It doesn’t take long for them to return to a single shadow.

Akira: Huh, its movements are suddenly really dull....?

The clusters that were scuttling about just a moment ago suddenly go stiff — it’s as if they’ve been tied up.

Mithra: Oh, so you cursed your blood.

Owen: Your methods are as insidious as ever.

Figaro: Please call it a strategy brimming with wisdom. Playtime is over.
<< Possideo >>

Snow: << Noscomnia >>

Mithra: << Arthim >>

Owen: << Cure Memini >>

Lennox: << Forsettao Meiuvat >>

(Clash)

Struck by the spells of five different wizards, the ancient creature can neither flee nor scatter; instead, it releases an ear-splitting wail.
