True Love for the Blossoming Forest | Chapter 3

Chapter 2 << | index | >> Chapter 4

Arthur: Every year, flower wine is made from the buds of rainflowers. It’s essential to the festival, but.....
This year, because the < Great Catastrophe > came too close, the town suffered immense damages and the warehouse where they stored the syrup was completely destroyed.

Akira: Oh no. If the warehouse was destroyed....

Arthur: Yes. The syrup used for the flower wine was all lost.

Shino: Is the syrup absolutely necessary?

Arthur: Yes. They need it to make the flower wine foam. So if they can’t prepare the flower wine, it’s even harder to make the festival a success.

Shino: I see. But I don’t know anything about wine.

Arthur: That’s fine. I have a different job for you, Shino.

Shino: A different job...?

Arthur: The white wolf is said to be the embodiment of the forest spirit. Judging from the howling and the drought, I’m sure the legend is connected to what’s going on.
Shino, you were the guardian of Sherwood Forest. I’m sure you know much about the forest. I’d like you to lend me your strength when something happens.

Shino: Got it. It doesn’t feel bad having you rely on me, Arthur.

Akira: Arthur. What will we do about the syrup for the flower wine? I don’t know much about wine either.....

Arthur: Don’t worry. I’ve asked Shylock to deal with the matter—he knows how to handle wine.

Akira: I see. If you have Shylock, there’s nothing to worry about.

Arthur: I’ve asked Murr to help as well. Let’s go see how they’re doing.

✦✧☾✧✦

Murr: Ah! It’s Sir Sage! Hey~!

Shylock: Oh, and Shino and Prince Arthur too. How is the investigation going?

Akira: Murr, Shylock. Thanks for all your work. We haven’t really covered much ground yet.....

Murr: Sir Sage, come here! We have wine!

Shino: Murr. Don’t encourage Sage to drink — it’s still the afternoon.

Murr: Ahaha! You sound like Faust! Want a drink instead, Shino?

Akira: N-no! We still have work!

Arthur: Thank you two for helping us out. How is the syrup coming along?

Shylock: Of course — it’s a celebratory wine with a rich history, after all. I’ve done everything I can to recreate it.
I am not a fan of haste, but we have no time to lose, so I will give you the answer right away. It is possible to make the wine foam.

Arthur: Really!

Akira: As expected of Shylock!

Shylock: Thank you for your words of praise, Sir Sage. But keep them in your pocket for now.

Shino: You mean we still have a problem?

Shylock: Even I cannot revive the lost rainflower syrup. It pains me to tell you this, but please do not expect the exact same flower wine.

Arthur: I understand.... Even magic cannot turn back the hands of the clock.

Shylock: Yes. But we are wizards. Even if we cannot turn back time, we do have our little tricks.
I will use magic to create syrup that is very similar to what was used in the original flower wine. I will try to match the taste and flavor as closely as possible as well.

Akira: Shylock....!

Shylock: Sir Sage, you can take that praise out of your pocket now.

Akira: Shylock, you really are amazing...! You’re so reliable.

Murr: Heh, of course!

Shino: Why do you look so proud?

Arthur: Shylock, I’m grateful for your help. The flower wine is an essential part of the festival. Thank you.

Shylock: Of course. It’s well worth gaining your gratitude, after all, Prince Arthur.

Murr: I want your gratitude too~! Please give it to me cheap!

Arthur: Haha. Of course, I’d be glad to give it to both of you.

Shylock: By the way.... I see that everyone is wearing lovely floral ornaments.

Arthur: Floral ornaments?

Akira: ...Oh. Shino, Arthur. There are flower petals in your hair.

Shino: You too, Sage.

Akira: Huh? You’re right. Ahaha.... I didn’t notice at all.

Arthur: We passed under an arch of rainflowers on our way here. They must have gotten into our hair then.

Shylock: Fufu. It suits you well.

Shylock outstretches his arm and plucks a petal off of my hair.

Shylock: How beautiful. Like the tears of a pure bride, dressed in white.....
Sir Sage. Are you aware of what the rainflower means in the language of flowers?

Akira: Huh? What does it mean?

I ask. Shylock stops toying with the petal between his fingers, and gives me a bewitching smile.

Shylock: "True love."
