Town of Glory | Main Episode

MahoYaku Masterpost & Translator's Notes

CHAPTER 1

Akira: We’ve arrived at the Central tower. Today I’d like the Central wizards to head to the Town of Glory.

Cain: The Town of Glory? That’s my hometown.

Arthur: Oh, is it? It is a beautiful town with a large river and a flourishing trade market.

Riquet: The serpents of the Town of Glory...... I’ve heard the legend about the giant snake monsters.
It’s a tale of a hero who defeated two serpents which encircled the town with their giant bodies and tried to rule over the townspeople.

Cain: Yeah. The swordsman took down the serpents with a sword bestowed upon him by a wizard.

Arthur: He sounds as cool as Cain.

Cain: Well....... I can take down other monsters, but serpents.......

Oz: Are you afraid of snakes?

Cain: It’s embarrassing to admit, but yeah...... Anyway, did something happen at the Town of Glory?

Akira: Apparently, the Central Country’s Order of Knights sent a distress signal while on their way to suppress a gang of bandits.

Cain: A distress signal from the Order of Knights......

> Option: The knights used to be your comrades, right, Cain?

Cain: Yeah, they were. I’m worried......

> Option: Maybe it’s a really formidable gang of bandits......

Cain: Even if it is, I’ll protect you.

> Option: Perhaps the serpents have come back to life......

Cain: ......Snakes......

Oz: For now, let us head to the Town of Glory. Are you prepared, Sage?

Akira: Yes. I’ll be counting on you.

Cain: Oh right, Sir Sage. The Town of Glory is famous for dancing. Everyone loves festivals, so we love to dance too.
If you feel like it, you should definitely try the different dances we have to offer. I bet it’d be good for a change of pace.

Akira: Dancing, huh. Got it. I’ll give it a try when we have time.

✦✧☾✧✦

Akira: So this is the Town of Glory...... The flow of the trade river is lovely, and there’s such a lively and easygoing atmosphere to the harbour.

Cain: Yeah. I used to play by the river all the time. Hmm...?

CHAPTER 2

Knight: General Cain!

Knight: General Cain! You really came!

Cain: It’s former General Cain. You guys seem like you’re doing good. You really had me worried with that distress signal.

Arthur: I’m glad everyone is safe. What actually happened?

Soldier: Prince Arthur.......! To tell you the truth, we managed to capture the bandits the other day, but they told us something strange......

Cain: Something strange?

Soldier: Those calm hills surrounding the Town of Glory...... The bandits said they saw large eyes peering over from the bare rock of those hills.
Furthermore, what the bandits thought was a cavern entrance turned out to have giant teeth, almost like the inside of a snake’s mouth......

Oz: That is because the Town of Glory is encircled by the serpents that were sealed away.

Cain: Really!? Are you saying that those legends are true?

Oz: I do not know about the wizard’s sword, or the legend of the swordsman, but the serpents are the foundation of the hills that encircle this town.
Were you unaware of this? The town holds a sealing ceremony every year.

Cain: Do we?

Oz: Do you not light torches arranged in the symbols of the sealing spell on the surface of the hills?

Cain: Are you talking about the bonfires we light during the festival?! Huh, were they always so important!?

Oz: You mean you’ve been carrying it all out without knowing why!?

Cain: ......So old traditions really do have their proper reasons......

Oz: ......You really have been doing them without knowing why......

Akira: This feels like a generation gap that would only exist in the magical world.

Cain: Even so, who would’ve thought that there are serpents surrounding my hometown....... Until now, I always felt refreshed when I gazed at those hills......

Oz: Perhaps your dislike of snakes was born because you unconsciously sensed the malice emanating from the serpents.

Cain: You think so? I always thought it was because I once fell into a nest of snakes.

CHAPTER 3

Cain: There were a few regions who called off their festivals due to the damages they suffered from this year’s < Great Catastrophe >.
If that’s what the Town of Glory did......

Riquet: The seal’s power might have weakened without the festival......

Cain: All right. Then it’s decided. Let’s discuss things with the mayor and hold the festival.
Come along, Sir Sage — we’ll go all out and throw a grand celebration!

✦✧☾✧✦

Town of Glory townsperson: It’s the festival! They’re going to hold the canceled festival!

Town of Glory townsperson: Oh, thank goodness! We suffered terrible damage from the < Great Catastrophe >, so this is a chance to liven up the town!

Knight: We’ll pitch in to help. All right everyone, time to prepare for the festival!

Town of Glory townsperson: Woaaahhh......!

(Bustling)

Akira: The townspeople look overjoyed.

Cain: Everyone loves a festival. Also, it’ll be a good break for the knights, don’t you think?

Akira: Do you ever think about returning to the Order?

Cain: Well, sometimes. Becoming a knight was my dream ever since I was a child. Like, aren’t knights cool?

Akira: They are. The first time I met you, I thought you were a really cool knight.

Cain: Wow, you’re smooth. I’ll have to treat you to something later.

Akira: T-that wasn’t what I was going for.

Cain: I know. I’m just trying to cover up my embarrassment since you praised me out of nowhere, Akira.
I do want to return to the Order, but...... I don’t hate my life the way it is now. I have you, and everyone else with me.
Prince Arthur is an honorable lord, and even though Oz can be scary, he’s really knowledgeable, and there’s still so many things I’d like to teach Riquet.
I’m proud to have been chosen as a Sage’s wizard.

Akira: Cain......

Cain: Let’s go. It’s almost time for the festival to start. For tonight, forget about your role and enjoy yourself.

CHAPTER 4

Riquet: Wow! The harbour is full of ships bearing torches.....!

Arthur: What a beautiful and enchanting sight...... Sir Oz, please look! There are stalls lined up over there!

Riquet: There’s chocolate desserts and cut fruits!

Arthur: And doughnuts and sandwiches, too!

Oz: Are you saying you want to eat them?

Arthur & Riquet: Yes!

Cain: Ahaha! I’ll show you guys around. Prince Arthur, please be careful of the crowds.

Arthur: Got it!

Cain: Be careful not to get stepped on, Riquet.

Riquet: I’m not that small!

Cain: I’m saying to keep your feet clear. Oz, you’re all dressed up like a distinguished person, so watch out for people who try to talk you into buying things.

Oz: What do you m—......

Stall owner: Mister! I have some great wine! How about a glass!
Naturally, wine has to go with cheese! Here’s our finest aged cheese from this year! Try it while it’s still fresh!

Oz: ......I will have some wine and cheese.

Stall owner: In a glass? Or a whole bottle?

Oz: In a glass......

Cain: Make that a bottle. Let’s drink together. Keep the change, Mister.

Stall owner: Thanks for your patronage!
Over here we have tomato soup filled with clams! You’ve got to try this if you’ve come all the way to the Town of Glory!

Riquet: He said we have to try it!

CHAPTER 5

Arthur: Then, that means we have to. Mister, I don’t have money with me, so would one gold coin suffice?

Stall owner: Gold coin!? Forget the soup, you can buy my entire stall with that!

Cain: Hang on, I’ll pay! Would you like some, Sir Sage?

Akira: Yes! Thank you!

Stall owner: Young master, what kind of family do you come from, carrying gold coins around?

Arthur: Ah, um......

Cain: Ahaha! Obviously it’s a joke! I taught it to him. You really fell for it.

Stall owner: Geez, don’t play tricks like that, Cain! I almost thought you’d brought the Prince along.

Arthur: A-ahaha.

Fortune teller: Hey, you over there. Come over here and I’ll divine your fortune. I can tell you how your romance with the girl you love will unfold.

Riquet: Thank you for your concern. However, as a disciple of God, my fate lies amongst the people.

Fortune teller: .............?

Cain: Ah, don’t worry about it! He just got his heart broken not too long ago.

Riquet: Heart broken? What does that mean?

Fortune teller: Oh my, what a fine man...... Shall I read your fortune and divine your partner for tonight? For you, it’s free — a special offer.

Cain: You can tell just by looking — I have my hands full looking after my friends tonight. Next time, maybe!

(Running footsteps)

Cain: Whew...... You three get held up by a different stall every three steps you take.

Oz: I have never been to a festival.

Arthur: But it’s so fun! Sir Oz, try this clam chowder. It’s really delicious!

Oz: Is that so? Would you like to eat some cheese?

Riquet: Oh...... I smell someone baking a cake!

Akira: It’s that stop over there. It looks delicious!

Riquet: Cain, I’d like to have cake too. Am I making an unreasonable request?

Cain: Not at all. Let’s go take a look. Make sure you don’t spill your soup.

Riquet: Okay!

CHAPTER 6

Cain: I’m happy I got to enjoy the festival with you guys. Oz, don’t drink all that wine by yourself.

Akira: Ah...... The hills surrounding the Town of Glory are alight with torches!

Cain: They’ve set the symbols for the seals ablaze.

Riquet: How pretty...... It feels like the large letters floating above the hills are watching over us......

Arthur: I agree......

Oz: With this, the sealing ceremony will continue.

Town of Glory townspeople: They’re setting off fireworks by the canal!

Town of Glory townspeople: Let’s go take a closer look!

Cain: Shall we go too, Sir Sage?

Akira: Yes!

(Sounds of fireworks)

Cain: Here come the fireworks!

Riquet: Wow, it’s so beautiful......! The fireworks are reflected on the lake, too......

Arthur: Murr would be delighted if he were here. And everyone is laughing so happily......

Town of Glory townspeople: It’s all thanks to the Sage’s wizards and the Order of Knights that we got to hold the festival!

Knights: Everyone did their part! Cheers to the Town of Glory!

Town of Glory townspeople: And cheers to all of the knights!

Akira: It’s been such a wonderful day......

Cain: Yeah, it really has.
I love this sight — everyone laughing together, lively and enjoying themselves......
Unfortunately for the serpents, they’re going to have to sleep for a few hundred more years so this age of tranquility can continue for as long as possible.
I pray for the seals placed upon the serpents by the legendary swordsman, using the sword the wizard bestowed upon him, to hold true and strong.......
