CHAPTER 1

???: Hey, Talia. I’ve completed my new puppet show. I’m sure you’ll love it.
You liked my last show too? Thank you. I thought you would.
......That’s a lie.
No, it’s nothing! Um, sometime...... If you don’t mind, that is.......
I would like to hear your story.
......That’s a lie. Forget it. Pretend you never heard anything.
Haha...... Are you feeling sleepy, Talia?
.............
.......She departed to the land of dreams.......
.......You were the one who said that careless interest and untempered curiosity will only hurt your heart.
That’s why you concealed yourself amidst the roses; you said you were resolutely closing off your heart in order to protect yourself from everything that could hurt you.
I agreed with you. I, too, detested those words and gazes which sought to pry into my past and the recesses of my heart.
And so we both shrugged. We professed how we did not care for other people. We had no interest in them, and we wanted no interest directed at us.
Those words were not lies. But even as I showed you my puppet shows, there was something I’ve never been able to tell you.
Hey, Talia......
Tell me your story.
I want to know you. I want to learn about the things you love. And if I can, I want to reach your heart.
But if I said something like that......
Would you come to hate me and hide yourself away, deep behind the briars?

✦✧☾✧✦

Drummond: Well then, I’ll make arrangements according to your instructions.

Arthur: Yes, thank you.

Cain: Arthur! Where are you?

Arthur: Cain. I’m here, touch me.

Cain: I see you now!

Drummond: Cain! How many times have I told you not to call the Prince by his first name!

Cain: Ah, sorry. Drummond.

Drummond: It’s Sir Drummond to you! With those manners, no wonder the ceremony—......

CHAPTER 2

Arthur: Stop it. You don’t need to tell him now.

Cain: ............? What are you talking about?

Drummond: .......It’s nothing. Make sure you aren’t causing Prince Arthur too much trouble.
Well then, I’ll take my leave.

Cain: Sorry to interrupt you guys.

Arthur: It’s fine. Where’s Sir Sage?

Cain: He returned to the magic headquarters. Until just now, we were—......

> Option

Cain: We were having a meal together.

Arthur: So you had lunch with the Sage. That’s wonderful. Where did you guys go?

Cain: A shop I like that’s tucked away in a corner of the marketplace. I snuck you out there before in secret......

Arthur: Oh! Everything there was really delicious. I’m sure the Sage loved it.

Cain: Probably. He ate with a smile on his face, so I cheered up just looking at him.

> Option

Cain: We went shopping together.

Arthur: Shopping with the Sage, huh. That sounds fun. Did you find what you were looking for?

Cain: I wasn’t looking for anything specific. We just wandered around the marketplace, looking around the open stalls and tasting fruit.......

Arthur: How nice. It sounds fun.

Cain: It was really fun! I wonder if it was a good break for Akira too?

Cain: So, are preparations for the ceremony proceeding smoothly?

Arthur: Yes. We’re finally holding the five countries’ peace conference and the world defense strategy roundtable.

CHAPTER 3

Arthur: Yes. We’re finally holding the five countries’ peace conference and the world defense strategy roundtable.

Cain: Originally, it was a signing ceremony held every five years by summoning ambassadors from the royal families of each country, right?

Arthur: That’s right. They’ve always held the five countries’ peace conference to renew the non-aggression treaty, but when it comes to world defense...
The representatives of each country meet and discuss the matter of the < Great Catastrophe > as well.
Since we’re in a critical situation, I’d like for all of us to set aside national borders and differences between wizards and humans in order to work together.

Cain: That’s a splendid goal. Still, I don’t really want to say this.......But I wonder if they’ll sign the treaty without making a fuss.

Arthur: Do you mean Western Country?

Cain: Until now, Central Country has played host to the national conference disguised as a party. It wouldn’t be strange for Western Country to harbour dissatisfaction.
It is within reason for them to call for a reconsideration of the ceremony’s venue, or the location of the magic headquarters...... In other words, they requested for it to be held in the West, didn’t they?

Arthur: I courteously turned them down. However, I’d like to avoid a confrontation with the Western royal family.
More importantly, I don’t want to trouble the Sage and the other wizards.

Cain: Akira and the rest of us are tougher than you think. You should lean on us more.

Arthur: I already rely heavily on you guys. I want to award your achievements.
I have plans to introduce the Sage’s wizards grandly at the opening ceremony, and have your portraits displayed at the royal court.

Cain: The ones you got drawn up recently? I almost felt like I’d become a hero. I hope the painters made me look great.

Arthur: You are a hero. And yet......

Cain: What’s wrong? You’ve been evasive all day. It’s not like you at all.
I mean. Excuse me — . This is quite uncharacteristic of your highness.

Arthur: ......As part of the opening ceremony rites, each country sends a representative knight to partake in the ritual as a display of their military prestige.

Cain: Yeah, I know that! It’s the ceremony where each knight receives a ceremonial sword, and overlays the point with the others’.
That ceremony is really cool. I was around 17 the first time I saw it. Back then, it was Nicholas who took part.

Arthur: ......I nominated you, but it was rejected.

Cain: Well...... That’s not surprising. I was driven out from the Order of Knights, so I’m not actually officially a knight.

Arthur: You said it was your dream. The next time you get a chance at it will be in 5 years.

Cain: I’ll aim for it then. Or perhaps I won’t. Because I’ve already found something even cooler.

Arthur: What is it?

Cain: You. It’s my honour to fight alongside you.

Arthur: Cain...... I’m glad that you’re my knight.

Cain: That’s the highest praise I could receive, your highness — an honour above anything else.

Woman: ......Kyaahhh......

Arthur & Cain: ............!

CHAPTER 4

Cain: Stay here. I’ll go check it out.

Arthur: I’m counting on you.

✦✧☾✧✦

Woman: Kyaahhh......

Man: Someone! Please get Prince Arthur......! Ah, no......!

Cain: (The screams are coming from the north-east. I can hear many footsteps. Under normal circumstances, no one would summon their lord to a dangerous place.)
(But seeing as they’re calling his name despite that, the opponent is probably a wizard.)

Man: General Cain! Look for General Cain!

Cain: You called?

Man: General Cain.....!

Cain: (The fear in his strained voice turned to relief. That means it’s a wizard I’m up against. This might get tricky.)
(I can sense a gust of wind. I’d guess they’re airborne. I’ll draw my sword for now.)
(What’s the situation? It’s not like I can just ask. I can’t let Prince Arthur’s enemies know that I can’t see.)
(They’ll use it against me.)
It’s all right! Everyone, step away from me.
Come at me, you sneaky thief!
(Since I don’t know their location, I have no choice but to make them come to me. —Come on, get mad.)
What’s wrong, are you scared!? If you’re starving that badly, I’ll consider giving you my boots!

Blonde-haired girl: Don’t you dare insult me!

Cain: (A girl? Is she a witch?)

Blonde-haired girl: I’m not a thief!

Man: General Cain, it’s that blonde witch! That witch wearing the yellow earrings broke into the castle from the window!

Blonde-haired girl: Leave now if you value your lives! I’ll kill you if you get in the way!

Cain: (I’m ready. Can I dodge her attack? But if I do, I won’t know what kind of attack it is. Should I take part of the hit?)
Interesting. Give me your best shot. I’m Central Country’s kni—......Well, I guess I’m not. Uh......
I’m Cain, the Sage’s wizard!

Blonde-haired girl: And my name is Aureolin! Here I come!

CHAPTER 5

Blonde-haired girl: And my name is Aureolin! Here I come!

Cain: (Here she comes.)

Riquet: << Sunrotea Edif >>!

Cain: ......! Woah......
Who’s pulling on my arm...... Riquet! You saved me there!

Riquet: What do you think you’re doing! Trying to show off with cool lines when you can’t even see your opponent.....!

Cain: Shh. Tell me where Aureolin is.

Riquet: Right in front of you!

Cain: << Gladius Procella >>!

Aureolin: ...........!

Cain: You dodged that, huh.

Aureolin: ......You were looking somewhere else until the very moment of the attack. Are you blind?

Cain: It’s a long story. Can I ask you something too?
What is your purpose for breaking into the castle? If you’re not acting out of an impassioned love for tall buildings that drives you to climb into them ......
Then you’re committing treason by trespassing without permission. I’ll have to capture you.

Aureolin: I refuse, you seductive Central man.
<< Vero Habere >>

Riquet: Cain! She’s coming at you from the upper right!

Cain: Got it!
......Guh......!

Riquet: Ahh, sorry! It was the upper right from my point of view......! I’m so sorry! Cain!

Cain: ......hh, I’m fine!
I can finally see you. Golden hair, and golden eyes.

Aureolin: The Sage’s wizard, Cain. I applaud you for putting up a brave fight.
But I will fulfill Father’s wish, and carry out Mother’s revenge and resurrection!
Come!

Oz: << Vox Nox >>

CHAPTER 6

Oz: << Vox Nox >>

Aureolin: Aaaaaaahhh......!!

Cain: ............!

Riquet: Lightning pierced through her body......! And now it’s wrapping around her......!

Aureolin: Aaaahhh......! Let go.....! Let go of me......!

Oz: Should I turn you into stone?

Cain: Wait, Oz......!

Aureolin: ......Uughh......!

Cain: Let me apprehend and interrogate her. Could you release the magical restraints? They look so painful that I can’t bear to see it.

Oz: ......They look painful?

Cain: You might call me naive, but surely ropes or chains are more than enough to bind her.

Oz: ............
<< Vox Nox >>

Aureolin: ......hh......

Riquet: Ah, the lightning turned into chains......

Cain: ......Looks like she fainted. But why would she break into the castle......
She could even get a death sentence for that. Even though she’s still so young...... Ah, I guess you can’t really tell from a wizard’s appearance.
But if she means to do anything to Prince Arthur, I won’t show any mercy. Oz, lend me a hand.

Riquet: Cain, your injuries......

Cain: These are nothing. Can I ask you to make a room where she won’t be able to escape with magic?

Oz: ............

Cain: Oz?

Oz: No...... I understand. There’s really a part of you that’s just like the Northern twins.

Cain: The twins? You mean Sir Snow and Sir White?

Oz: That’s right. Let’s go.

Cain: I don’t really get it, but...... For now, let’s move the girl.

Riquet: I wonder what she meant by those words.
Mother’s revenge and resurrection.

Cain: Good grief. Looks like we have another troublesome job on our hands right on the eve of the ceremony.
Well, things will probably work out!
