1.1 A Sudden Encounter
Murr: ....Excuse me. Excuse me, Sir. Do let me pass through.
(Bump)
???: ......! Could it be — you’re the renowned.....
Murr: Shh. I don’t want to attract too much attention.
???: I apologize. But oh, I feel like I’m living a dream.... To think I could meet the man of such legends.
Murr: Glory fades in the blink of an eye. I am merely a penniless scholar now. And with that, I bid you goodbye.
???: Please wait, M... Genius of the ages. You’re known for never showing your face — what brings you here tonight?
Murr: I’m patron-hunting, you see. The rich aren’t holding onto their wealth as well as they used to; it must be because of the approaching war.
???: I don’t believe it. The Western royals wouldn’t hold back from showering you in wealth for your talent.
Murr: No, they really have gotten quite stingy lately. Perhaps it’s because the royal ass sitting upon the throne has changed. By the way, do you know of the princess of Sapphire Castle?
???: The princess of Sapphire Castle....?
Murr: Yes. The lord of Sapphire Castle is said to be wealthier than the royalty now. I came here to meet the family’s dearest daughter. I hear she’s quite the talented musician.
I’m certain that the sheltered, artistic princess will take a liking to me.
???: That’s fascinating. Why do you say so?
Murr: Artists love a good thrill. Look at the night sky.
There is nothing more beautiful and thrilling than that moon.
But it is beyond our reach.
???: .....Beyond our reach.....
Murr: I, on the other hand, remain within reach. And I am the most thrilling man in this world. Because I live back to back with destruction.
The artistic princess will fall heads over heels for me. Or not. I wouldn’t mind playing the pony in her little game of horse either.
I must acquire funding for my research. I will get on my knees before the sheltered princess and kiss the tips of her shoes if that’s what it takes.
???: I understand your earnestness, esteemed sir. But now I see that even a man like you, known as the Master Sage, can make mistakes.
Murr: What do you mean?
???: You must have been so utterly absorbed in your own research that you failed to take account of the happenings in the outside world.
The noble child of Sapphire Castle is not an only daughter, but an only son. His name is Rustica Ferch.
Rustica: Pleased to make your acquaintance, good sir — the most attractive and thrilling genius the world has seen through the ages....
Oh... Please. Just once. Let me whisper your name just once.
...Sir Murr Hart. I am honored to meet you.
Murr: So you are Rustica.....
Rustica: Indeed.
Murr: ..........
Do not worry, my fine young nobleman. I am a wizard. I can transform into a woman, should you wish. A woman to suit your every fantasy, at that.
Rustica: Please keep this a secret, but I am a wizard too. And I have a fiance.
Murr: I wouldn’t mind playing the role of your mistress, but would you rather I be a horse?
Rustica: Ah.... Look. She’s coming this way.
Let me introduce her — my bride-to-be.
Her name is.....

1.2 Where is Everyone Now?
Chloe: ...tica....
....Rustica!
Rustica: ..........
Chloe: You finally opened your eyes! Geez.... I can’t believe you fell asleep somewhere like this....
Rustica: Chloe.....
Chloe: Good morning, Rustica. Are you still dreaming? What’s going on in there?
Rustica: ....I dreamed of her.....
Chloe: Huh....?
Rustica: ....Yaaaawn.....
Chloe: Woah, you surprised me! Yawning out of nowhere like that.
Rustica: Haha..... Good morning, Chloe.
Chloe: So what were you dreaming about?
Rustica: Who knows — I’ve forgotten! But I’m certain it was a delightful dream. I feel so good right now.
Chloe: I guess that’s fine, then....
Rustica: And you’re right before my eyes. I’ll be in your care as always, Chloe. I hope today will be another wonderful day.
Chloe: Yes, let’s make it a good one, Rustica. Ah.... Did you fall asleep writing this?
Rustica: Oh, that’s right. I borrowed the Western Sages’ manual from Sir Sage....
I hope we can return to the magic headquarters soon, and share our adventures with Sir Sage and everyone else.
Chloe: Yeah.... You’re right.
Hey, Rustica. We’ll make it back, right? Not just us, but everyone else too.....
Rustica: Of course. I believe we’ll all fulfill our duties and meet again. Let’s believe in each other.
Chloe: Yeah.... I will.
Rustica: I wonder where the other conductors of this symphony are right now — my friends, who have taken on the other countries’ Sages’ manuals.
What sights are they seeing? What stories are they weaving?
What will they bring back for our Sir Sage?
✦✧☾✧✦
(Crash)
Faust: .........
Sigh......
Another day without casualties.
✦✧☾✧✦
Young girl: Thank you for healing my little brother!
I will bring my parents another day to give you our proper thanks!
Figaro: You don’t have to give me anything. But do visit again. They could use some company.
Young girl: I will! I’ll bring my friends, too!
Figaro: Feel free to drop by anytime.
(Footsteps)
Figaro: Fufu. She’s so cute.
Lennox: ....Dr. Figaro.
Figaro: That guy again?
Lennox: Yes. He said he wanted to see you.
Figaro: Oh boy.....
(Scribbles)
Figaro: ....He came by today too.
✦✧☾✧✦
(Woosh)
Bradley: ....You’ve gotta be kidding me!
I’m not putting your death anniversary on the calendar today!
✦✧☾✧✦
Cain: ........
Nicholas. Looks like I’m finally....
About to grab his tail — the guy who incited you.
...Nova.....

1.3 Retaining the Magic Headquarters
A few months ago—
Drummond: Very well, Sir Sage. Are you prepared?
Akira: Yes.
Drummond: Are you absolutely certain!?
Akira: Um...... Yes, well, I think I’m about 70% sure things will be okay, but........
I mumble, trailing off under Mister Drummond’s repeated admonishments.
He looks so wretched and troubled, I almost feel sorry for him.
Drummond: Sir Sage...... We simply cannot do with such a feeble response! This concerns the very survival of the magic headquarters!
Cock Robin: Sir Drummond! Prince Vincent has arrived!
Drummond: Ah......! He’s here already!
Mister Drummond springs into action, as if an evil god has arrived to raze his entire village.
I can understand how he feels.
Prince Vincent, the younger brother of the King of Central Country, is widely known for his intense hatred of wizards.
Today is his third round of inspections of the magic headquarters.
And by that, I mean—.......
Drummond: When he came for the first inspection, all the wizards greeted him as witches. And his second time round, they all transformed themselves into children......
They’ll be their normal selves today, won’t they!?
I try my best to plaster a smile on my face.
Akira: ......Most probably.......
Drummond: Sir Sage! That is hardly reassuring! This is our last chance!
Akira: But.......
Drummond: But what!?
Akira: But Prince Vincent hasn’t made the slightest effort to be friendly either.
That’s why the wizards are trying to get a rise out of him to begin with.
Drummond: Shh.......! Sir Sage, he’ll hear you!
Akira: It might do him some good if he does. You don’t want a fourth inspection either, don’t you?
Drummond: I understand how you feel, but in the end, it is Prince Arthur who will be reprimanded by Prince Vincent.
Thus, I ask you to refrain from expressing such sentiments on account of Prince Arthur.
Akira: I understand. Everyone including Oz will cooperate this time, so the inspection should go well.
Drummond: Are you certain?
Akira: Well, yes...... They were all delighted with the pastries the palace kitchens sent along the other day.......
Drummond: Oh, wonderful! It goes to show the value of diligence in sending seasonal gifts. I’ll send more next time.
Akira: Thank you.
Drummond: Oh dear, Prince Vincent is glancing over in our direction.
Perhaps he’s looking for me. Sir Sage. Would you excuse me?
Akira: Of course. Should I stay here?
Drummond: If you would. Please wait here!
Drummond rushes off in a flurry of excitement.
I maintain an attentive posture, smiling cheerfully as I wait. And then......
Arthur: Sir Sage.
Akira: Woah........!
I jump at hearing Arthur out of nowhere.
Startled, I look down to find a vivid blue butterfly perched on my shoulder.
It speaks in Arthur’s voice.
Akira: Arthur.......
Arthur: I’m sorry. I couldn’t sit still, so I snuck in to see how things were going.
The butterfly flutters and flaps its wings.
Mister Drummond, preoccupied with welcoming Prince Vincent, doesn’t seem to have noticed the butterfly’s presence.

1.4 Re-encounter
Arthur: Don’t be so worried. All you have to do is be your usual self and introduce the rest of us the way that you normally would.
Akira: Okay. But Mister Drummond said the survival of the magic headquarters hinges on this inspection.......
Arthur: It’s all right. I hardly think my uncle is serious about wanting to demolish the headquarters.
But there are political considerations concerning our neighbors.......
Akira: You mentioned that during the five countries’ peace conference, too.
I recall the events leading up to the conference.
The peace conference was disrupted by the machinations of the wizard named Obsius.......
And then, the day it was finally held.
It was the first international forum to take place after the battle with the < Great Catastrophe> threw the world into disarray.
With that in mind, the five countries came together for the peace conference.
But Obsius attempted to seize Granvelle Castle.
While the Sage’s wizards managed to resolve the matter, the castle’s inhabitants were all enchanted into a deep sleep.......
So no one knew how narrowly they escaped a life or death situation.
Even though each country’s representatives were delayed by way of natural disasters and various other reasons, we managed to successfully hold the peace conference.
And what emerged as the most contentious topic of discussion was the issue of the magic headquarters, overseen by Central Kingdom.......
In short, the problem lay with me and the Sage’s wizards who lived in the headquarters.
Drummond: Sir Sage.
Mister Drummond’s voice snaps me out of my musings.
Arthur whispers as he flutters his wings.
Arthur: Well then, I’ll take my leave now. I shall await your presence with the other Central wizards.
Akira: I got it.
As Arthur flies away in his butterfly form, Prince Vincent and the others approach me.
Prince Vincent’s slender figure, dignified features, and imperious manner....... He’s an imposingly scary person at first glance.
In the past, I would have looked away, shrunk into myself, and walked past him as quickly as I could
But after encountering so many different wizards and growing familiar with them, my fear of him has subsided.
Akira: (He might be scary, but he’s still human...... It’s not like he can summon lightning or destroy buildings, and he’s not a ghost either.......)
(And if there’s a wicked wizard around, I know that he’s a conscientious person who would be concerned with protecting the people.......)
Vincent: It certainly has been a while. Akira, the Sage who guides the wizards.
Akira: It sure has been. Greetings, Mister Vincent. .......Or should it be Lord Vincent? How should I refer to you?
Vincent: .......There is no need for formalities. You are not a person of this world. Therefore, there is no reason to impose our rules on you.
Besides, you simply call Arthur by his name. His position ranks him above me.
Akira: Is that so?
Vincent: Arthur is the first in line to the crown. Since you refer to him by name, you should not use unnecessary formality for me.

1.5 I Hope We Can Become Friends One Day
Akira: But I’ve been saying "Mister Drummond" this entire time.......
Prince Vincent turns around with a look of disbelief at Mister Drummond.
With a stiffly solemn expression, Mister Drummond speaks composedly.
Drummond: Sir Sage. If you will, please simply call me Drummond from now on.
Akira: But I say "Mister Cock Robin" too.......
Cock Robin: Oh no, no no no! Just "Cock Robin" is enough! Even "Co" would be fine!
Akira: (But I’m already used to what I’ve been calling them. Hmm.......)
Looking at their grave expressions, I think for a while before making a suggestion.
Akira: Let’s keep the names we’ve been using. In formal situations, I’ll take care to be more respectful when I’m talking to Arthur.
Vincent: But.......
Akira: Arthur and I are friends. But it would be presumptuous to use your name so casually when you’re older than me.......
If we become friends in the future, please let me call you by your name.
Mister Vincent raises a single exasperated eyebrow at my remark.
Vincent: Hmph........
Still, he bows courteously before accepting my suggestion.
Vincent: Very well then.
Akira: By the way, Mister Vincent. Will these people also be joining you in your inspection rounds.......?
Mister Vincent is accompanied by a large retinue of soldiers. Unless I’m wrong, they’re probably the Magical Technology Corps.
Even at a quick glance, I would hazard at least fifty soldiers. This would be the first time such a large party was invited to the magic headquarters.
Vincent: These are my bodyguards. Is there a problem?
Drummond: Lord Vincent. I fear walking around with such a large party would serve as a provocation to the wizards.
Vincent: Oh? Are you implying there will be resistance?
Mister Vincent glares threateningly at me.
Despite my reluctance, I answer truthfully.
Akira: I don’t think anyone will resist...... But some of the wizards will get worked up.
Vincent: ........
Akira: They tend to get excited when there’s a lot of people around — it’s like a festival.
Clearly disgruntled, Mister Vincent orders half of his guards to stay behind.
Vincent: Will this suffice?
Akira: Yes. Thank you.
Vincent: Well then, show us around.
Akira: It would be my pleasure.
Bowing politely, I lead the way towards the magic headquarters.
From the corner of the corridor, Miss Canary holds up encouraging fists to cheer us on.
Thus begins Mister Vincent’s third inspection of the magic headquarters.

1.6 Wizards and Spirits
First, we head to check in on the Central wizards as they train.
They are gathered in the outdoor training grounds located in the forest near the headquarters.
He was a butterfly just moments earlier, but Arthur is amongst them in his practice outfit now.
Cain, a former Central knight, stands next to him.
Arthur: Sir Sage. Uncle Vincent. Welcome to the magic headquarters.
Cain: Lord Vincent. Thank you for gracing us with your presence.
Because of his injury from the < Great Catastrophe >, Cain can’t actually see Mister Vincent.
Yet there isn’t anything unnatural in his greeting.
Perhaps it’s thanks to Arthur, who subtly indicates Mister Vincent’s position with his gaze.
Even in such casual exchanges, I can sense their unequivocal support of each other and the deep trust that binds them together — they present the ideal master-retainer relationship.
Vincent: Pay no heed to my presence here, and carry on with your training as you normally would.
Arthur and Cain acknowledge Mister Vincent’s words with slight nods, before turning back away.
Their gazes land on Oz gripping his staff, and Riquet who is looking up at him.
A faint breeze riding on dappled sunbeams gently ruffles their hair.
Riquet speaks to Oz, his gaze straightforward and determined.
Riquet: Oz. Please carry on with what you were saying.
The story of wizards and spirits.
Oz lowers his eyes like he’s assenting.
His gaze roams around the still forest as the sigh of wind ripples through it, as if he’s chasing after some unseen apparition.
Oz: The order of the world, and the order protected by the spirits. The spirits have a fondness for wizards, and they allow us to control them.
Riquet: The spirits....... Isn’t it God who bestowed us with the mysterious powers that we possess?
Oz: Some call the spirits god. You can call them anything you want.
Riquet looks bewildered at Oz’s offhand remark.
He was raised in a sequestered cult and told he was a disciple of God.
It’s only natural that he would feel shaken at the idea that he could call his god anything he wanted to.
Both Mister Vincent and Mister Drummond listen gravely to their conversation.
I find myself surprised, but perhaps they’re just as curious as I am. About a mysterious world they can’t witness with their own eyes.
An immense, unknown force that could either threaten or protect our very existence.
Oz: Different spirits gather in different lands, and they exhibit distinct properties depending on where they reside. Each set of spirits adheres to its own order.
Cain: They’re different according to the land, huh........ So you mean the wind spirits of Central Country are different from the wind spirits of Western Country?
Oz: Yes. To be exact, spirits from the same country still display subtle differences depending on where within the country they reside.
Human societies are structured in a similar manner. People of similar temperaments cluster together, or they are influenced into behaving according to the temperament of their surroundings.
I recall my life back in modern society. Personally, my local community wasn’t active at all.
But this might be similar to communities online.
Individuals are often influenced by their communities, or they are drawn towards the ones that match their own temperament and interests.
For example, cat lover groups must exist at the city, workplace, and school levels.
Cain: What would happen if we did something to mix up spirits from different lands?
1.7 Spirits and God
Oz: The weak spirits would be assimilated into the strong ones. In most cases, the bigger group of spirits exerts their influence on the smaller group.
In time, they’ll be steeped in the temperament of the land.
Arthur: Like when someone changes where they live, and adapts to suit their new surroundings......
That’s what you told me in the past.
Oz: That’s right. Spirits are easily influenced.
Spirits favor those who exert strong influence on them and seek to wield them.
Akira: So wizards.......?
Oz: Wizards, and magical creatures. Occasionally even objects harboring mysterious powers.
The stronger the magic, the more frenzied the spirits.
You might say that the ones who are more beloved by the spirits are the ones most capable of influencing the spirits.
Riquet: In other words.......
Riquet blinks profusely as he questions Oz: it almost sounds like he’s questioning himself.
Riquet: If you are the strongest wizard in the world, Oz, then are you the one the spirits love best?
Oz: Yes, if you choose to describe it that way. Or you could say that I’m the most influential being, or the one who makes them craziest.
Riquet: If the spirits are, by another name......God, then does it mean that you’re the one He loves best too?
Oz: Yes.
Riquet’s gaze flares wide open as he stares at Oz.
A violent wave of simultaneous revolt, fury, fear, and longing seems to ignite within Riquet, nearly knocking him off his feet.
Arthur steadies Riquet as he staggers back.
Arthur: .......Are you okay, Riquet?
Riquet: Yes, erm....... ........... I don’t know what to say, for good or bad.......
Please continue what you were saying......
Oz: ............
Riquet: Wait. Let me say this first. I-I refuse to accept this.
Oz: Which part?
Riquet: I don’t accept that you’re the one that God loves the most.......
Oz: Then that’s fine.
Riquet: ..........
Riquet looks bewildered all over again. He would have toppled over if not for Arthur supporting him.
His hair whips around wildly, like an animal's fur trembling on end as it faces off against its natural enemy.
The force enveloping Riquet is so immense that he might’ve even punched Oz if Mister Vincent and Mister Drummond hadn’t been there.
Riquet glares tearily at Oz.
Riquet: I’ve had enough of your carelessness.
Oz: ................
Oz looks down at Riquet, seemingly apathetic.
No, he might seem apathetic, but there are traces of turmoil and pity in his placid gaze.
Oz really does like Riquet.
He’s attached not just to Riquet, but to Arthur who he raised, and Cain as well.
It’s a change in him borne of living at the magic headquarters, and weathering numerous missions together.
Arthur: Riquet. You heard Sir Oz say that the spirits’ temperaments differ according to each land, right?
Perhaps your god is different from Sir Oz’s god.
Riquet: Really......?
1.8 An Obfuscated Riquet
Oz: I do not know if the being you refer to as god is the same, but the spirits have their own rulers.
Cain: Like the King of Central Country, or the King of Western Country?
Oz: Countless numbers exist. Without fail, you can always find them where there is a strong presence of spirits.
Arthur: When I was young, you told me that they were like the leader of a pack of animals.
Oz: That’s right. Once the order of the land stabilizes, and the group of spirits grows in size, a ruler naturally emerges.
Cain: So what does the ruler do?
Oz: Nothing. As long as nothing disrupts the order of the land.
Riquet: What does that mean?
Oz: Chaos. Order breaks down, and everything becomes irregular. Unforeseen disasters and catastrophes befall the region.
When a ruler of spirits dies or an evil curse is inflicted on the land, the resulting loss of order gives birth to chaos.
Chaos pollutes all of creation. From beasts who come into contact with the land, to plants who come into contact with the beasts: everything will fall into disorder and warp into unnatural distortion.
Akira: Pollute....... Is it like putting poison into a clear lake?
Oz: Far worse than that.
Things that ought to be lose their shadows, and things that ought not be are continually invited over the threshold.
Such lands are strikingly beautiful, yet appallingly gruesome. The same goes for the humans, plants, and beasts that live there.
It is possible to purify the land with magic, but it would take many years before the fundamental order of the land was fully restored.
Cain: Strikingly beautiful...... So, like Heathcliff? He’s really good looking, right?
Would that be so bad?
Oz: Heathcliff is different. Chaos and confusion do not arise from the kind of natural beauty that leaves one breathless with admiration.
I’m talking about a beauty so unsightly it makes you gasp and stand on edge. You’d know it if you saw it.
Cain: I see....... Got it, thanks.
You know, you can’t hold a conversation, but your explanations are really easy to understand. Did you practice just for us?
Cain’s smile is brimming with warm appreciation.
Oz shakes his head and glances at Arthur.
Oz: Arthur asked countless similar questions as a child.
Cain: Ah, that makes sense.
Riquet: ......I still can’t accept what you say as correct.
Riquet presses a hand against his forehead, exhaling deeply in an effort to cool his agitation.
Riquet: How could you say I can call him anything I want ....... There’s no way that’s true. It’s a secret power that turns the world on its axis.
There must be a correct answer somewhere. I still think Father Priest is correct, not you.
Observing Riquet’s response, Mister Vincent turns to Mister Drummond.
Vincent: .......And this priest he speaks of is?
Drummond: Riquet was raised in the doomsday church that’s been causing all the recent upheaval.
It appears they taught their followers that wizards are disciples of God......
Vincent: .......I see.
Arthur: Riquet.
At that moment, Arthur places his hand on Riquet’s shoulder and kneels down.
He grips Riquet’s shoulders — so frail they look like they could fold in on themselves — and smiles up at him.
Arthur: It’s only natural for you to be troubled. I also want to know the true form of the secret force that brings forth such mysterious incidents across the world.
Riquet: Prince Arthur......
Arthur keeps his gaze fixed on Riquet as he talks.
With the same honest, straightforward words that came knocking and opened the heavy doors to the heart of the wizard known to the world as the demon king.
Every word glitters, as bright and gentle as rays of spring sunshine.
Arthur: The world is filled with mysterious things. It is wonderful to have so many things you want to discover.
I want to continue learning about each and every one of these things with you, Riquet.
1.9 Feelings of Love
Riquet gazes at Arthur, his green eyes filled with gratitude.
Riquet was brought up in an unconventional fashion.
Every time he comes into contact with the world, the foundation of his faith wavers little by little.
For Riquet, there must be a profound fear of losing his way in this strange, unfamiliar world.
It must be a relief to have Arthur by his side whenever he’s rocked by such uncertainty.
Arthur tenderly grasps Riquet’s palms.
Arthur: As we spend our days from now on learning from the world together, I want to learn about the things you love too, Riquet.
Riquet: The things I love?
Arthur: Yes. Things that you choose because you love them, and not because they’re correct.
If you’re always thinking about what’s correct, then you’ll come to decide that everyone who makes choices different from yours is wrong......
But if you choose out of love, you can become friends with people who choose differently; you just have different tastes.
Riquet: .....If I choose the things I love......
Arthur: That’s what Sir Oz was trying to tell you.
Whether it’s the ruler of the spirits, or your God — you can call him any name you wish to.
He wasn’t making light of your faith or your truth, Riquet. Do you get that?
Riquet: ............ Somehow, I get it now......
Arthur: I’m glad.
Arthur smiles and caresses Riquet’s head.
Arthur: It’s truly difficult to stay by someone’s side in this world, and live without hurting others or being hurt yourself.
If everyone only believed in and chose the things we collectively decided were correct, our lives would be peaceful and uncomplicated.
But things never work out that easily. People are always wavering.
Riquet: .......Even you, Prince Arthur?
Arthur: Naturally. My world was rewritten countless times — when I ended up living in the North, and again when I returned to Central Country.
I misunderstood a great deal, and my knowledge of the world was turned inside out and upside down on so many occasions.
Riquet: Were you scared......? .......Were you ever ashamed of yourself for being wrong......?
Arthur: Yes. I was scared, and also ashamed. I felt lonely and lost without being able to rely on anything.
But now that I think back on it, I needn’t have felt ashamed. It’s only natural for someone to be ignorant when they encounter new things.
I’m sure you’ll arrive at the same realization in time, Riquet.
And when you do, please remember this: we’ll be there by your side.
Riquet: Okay....... I understand. I’m still uncertain, but...... I feel slightly more at ease now.
So everyone shares this pathetic feeling. If that’s the case, then I think I can bear it.
Arthur: That’s right. This is especially true for Central Country, which lies at the center of the continent — it’s a place where all sorts of people constantly come and go.
If everyone engaged in conversation based only on their own brand of correctness, there would be fights breaking out everywhere.
Arthur raises his gaze as he continues patting Riquet’s head.
He’s looking at Mister Vincent. Mister Vincent’s blue eyes, so alike Arthur’s own, respond with blunt scrutiny.
Vincent: ............
Arthur: So let’s talk freely — about the things you love, and the things I love. Let’s talk about the things we don’t love.
Even if we have our differences, I’m sure we’ll still be as close as we are now.
Riquet: ......Yes, Prince Arthur. Thank you.
✦✧☾✧✦
Cain: ......Whew. That was close. Has Lord Vincent moved onto the next part of his inspection?
Arthur: It appears so.
Cain: I hope there’s no trouble today. Where are Riquet and Oz?
1.10 The Prince’s Scheme
Arthur: I was going to take Riquet back to his room because he seemed worn out, but Sir Oz offered to go with him instead.
Cain: I see. You know, those two get along pretty well.
Arthur: I’m delighted. Although it does make me think back on the years I spent with Sir Oz, and I get nostalgic for a time I can no longer return to.
Cain. Lend me your counsel. I have a scheme up my sleeve.
Cain: A scheme?
Arthur: I can sense the Western government’s hand behind Uncle’s stubborn insistence on inspecting the magic headquarters.
Cain: Western Country?
Arthur: Yes. He has close ties with Western Country through his research into magical science technology.
If it came down to a political struggle between the two of us, he could probably count on the support of Western Country.
Cain: ......Aren’t we talking about something really dangerous?
Arthur: That’s why I’m whispering. Of course, I want to resolve our differences and come to a mutual understanding.
But that’s a separate matter. After all, you have to be on your guard when you’re playing with a powerful animal.
That’s something I learned as a child in the North. Their desires, fears, objectives — unless you learn what the other side wants, you’ll both end up with unexpected wounds.
If you want to work together, then it’s important to understand and respect the other party as an individual, and place your trust in them.
If I can understand my Uncle, perhaps I can also understand how something that is a natural course of action for me might appear as an assault to him.
It will open my eyes to such complexities.
Cain: Yeah, you’re right. In short, if Lord Vincent ends up being a political rival, with his hatred of wizards........
There’s every possibility of him forming an alliance with Western Country. The magical science technology created in the West won’t mess with humans, after all.
Arthur: Exactly. There might have been a certain amount of faith between my uncle and the Western government, but......
Their relationship appears to be shaky at the moment. I can guess at the reason behind it.
Cain: That incident at the five countries’ peace conference......
Arthur: Yes. Very wise, my knight.
Cain: I’m not a knight anymore.
Arthur: Self-deprecation doesn’t suit you, Cain. I’m going to reinstate you as the captain of the knights.
That’s my scheme. I seized the moment when I saw my uncle wavering, and......
I told him a lot of things, hoping he can come to accept wizards — to like us.
And he listened to what I had to say. If this inspection goes well, I’m going to summon my courage and beg a request from him.
Cain: Request?
Arthur: Yes. I want to ask him to instate important government posts specifically for wizards.
That’s my first step.
We’re so busy resolving all these mysterious incidents around the world that we don’t have the capacity to prepare for the battle against the < Great Catastrophe > at the magic headquarters.
So I want to form an investigation unit involving wizards that can be dispatched to handle mysterious incidents.
Cain: Investigation unit......
Arthur: Once the investigation unit has been established, I’ll ensure it wins a sufficient amount of trust from the people. Then I’m going to change its name.
"Magical Order of the Knights." And you’ll be their leader, Cain.
Cain: Arthur.......
That simply won’t do. If you’re doing this for me, cut it out. You’ll jeopardize your own position.
There’s not a single country out there whose government isn’t afraid of giving institutional power to wizards.
Arthur: It’s not for your sake, but mine. For the sake of my ideal world.
As my uncle likes to say, wizards possess mysterious powers.
We could read sealed correspondences and infiltrate castles through the sky. We could easily carry out assassinations.
But, Cain. There are young men who are even taller than you or Lennox, right?
They could easily hurt small children with their brute strength should they wish to do so.
But the foundation of society is built on the mutual trust that most people wouldn’t choose to do harm.
It’s strange that only wizards are barred from that circle of trust.
It’s strange that a hero who protects the people has to live stripped of his name and glory.
As the prince of this country, I’m going to return what this country took away from you.
Cain: ......Arthur......
Arthur: Today’s inspection is the first step towards that goal! Let’s do our best so everything goes well. Can you give me a high five for encouragement?
Cain: ......Got it. Let’s work hard together. I want to protect your reputation, too.
Oz’s and Riquet’s too...... And the reputations of all the other wizards, as well as the humans.
Arthur: Yes!
